GrowSF's “Dump Dean” Campaign Was The Largest Grassroots Effort to Oppose an Incumbent Supervisor in San Francisco History
San Francisco, CA — GrowSF is proud to announce the success of our “Dump Dean” campaign, the largest grassroots effort to oppose an incumbent Supervisor in San Francisco’s history. The initiative, backed by the generous support of over 300 individual donors, was a testament to the power of people-driven change and a clear call for responsive, solutions-focused leadership.
“Grassroots support made this possible. Without the 300+ donors, support on the ground, and vocal grassroots advocates, Dean Preston would still be in City Hall,” said Steven Bacio, Director and Co-Founder of GrowSF.
The campaign’s success culminated in the election of Bilal Mahmood, who ran on the issues that resonate with San Franciscans: improving public safety, addressing the fentanyl crisis, and ensuring more housing options in our city. Mahmood’s commitment to these priorities, which earned him GrowSF’s endorsement, was clear throughout his campaign. He listened, engaged, and advocated for the change that our community needs.
“Regular people just want the basics to work,” said Sachin Agarwal, Director and Co-Founder of GrowSF. “That’s what Dump Dean was all about: kicking out an incumbent who ignored his constituents and made excuses instead of getting the job done, and replacing him with a forward-looking, effective leader like Bilal.”
GrowSF extends a heartfelt thank you to all our donors, supporters, and voters who made this historic effort possible. Together, we demonstrated the strength of our collective voice and our shared commitment to a safer, more vibrant San Francisco.
